Mouse Problem: It’s all about family

People are often surprised at the ingenuity of mice and rats when they find out they have a mouse problem.  The picture below is of a newly uncovered mouse nest in a vacant garage.  Needless to say there’s a mouse problem or one coming very soon.

Mice usually will make their nests out of materials of convenience.  These materials and locations include burrowing into insulation, nesting in boxes of storage, towels, paper piles etc.  When mice are able to find these materials and make good use of them a mouse problem is not far behind.

In the case of this nest the mice actually shredded paper towels, piled them into a ball and made a comfortable little spot where  the female was able to have her pups, of which there were 6.

What’s not shown in the picture are all the droppings.  This garage was filled with rodent fecal matter and urine stains.  The garage also had a noticeable odor.  This mouse problem was out of control in a very small area.

By my own admission mice can be cute to look at, but the damage they cause and the potential for illness is to great to keep them around.
