Mosquito yard service, CT

Having a mosquito yard service is a good idea.  If you haven’t noticed there seems to be a number of diseases both old a new that are being found with greater frequency than in the past.  The Zika virus and Encephalitis are the two most frequently in the news, but to be sure there are more.  In order to protect both you and your family there are a few things that you need to know when choosing a contractor for a mosquito yard service.

They’re as follows:

Licensing

In order to legally provide a mosquito yard service in CT the company must be licensed in that category. There are many contractors in CT that provide tick control services and tell customers that mosquitoes are included.  The reason is that the pesticides used, both natural and organic have a lot of overlap.  The product we use for our mosquito yard service is Talstar.  This product is both effective and affordable.  In CT the company providing services for mosquitoes must posses a mosquito and biting fly license. If the company doesn’t have this license they’re breaking the law.   The same holds true for mosquito companies that promise a tick service with their program.  These companies must have an ornamental a turf license in order to legally implement a tick control service.  Many don’t as this license is extremely difficult to get.  I’m not ashamed to say that of the 7 licenses I hold ornamental and turf was by far the most difficult.

Monthly service

In order for the property to be protected from as many mosquitoes as possible the service must take place on a monthly basis from roughly April-October.  The reason is that the mosquito life cycle is very quick.  It will last only about 25 days or so.  Adding to this is the fact that standing water and rain activate the eggs. Without a monthly service you’ll be disappointed with the results.

Equipment

When we first started offering mosquito services for the yard we were surprised that the required equipment is actually less expensive than the equipment used for tick control. However, cheaper doesn’t mean less effective.  In order for a mosquito yard service to be effective a mist blower must be used.  The fine mist of product that the blower produces allows the company to get to the daytime resting areas of the female mosquito (which is the one that bites you).  Without a mist blower it would be impossible to treat all these areas.  If your service provider says that they’re providing a mosquito service, but they’re using a hose end sprayer.  Your the one being hosed because that’s not how its done.

CT mosquito services will be in great demand during the spring and summer of 2016 because of the Zika virus.  You owe it to yourself and your family to get the best service you can.

I leave you with one final thought.  Were you aware that the greatest number of pesticide accidents are attributed to unlicensed or improperly licensed companies?  Don’t take a chance, ask for the two separate licenses that are required in CT to provide mosquito and tick control.
