Get rid of squirrels in the attic

To get rid of squirrels in the attic is more of a process than an event.  In fact, for some homeowners it can turn out to be a chronic issue.

There are 2 main squirrels in Connecticut that we as exterminators deal with.  They are the grey squirrel and the flying squirrel.  Here are some general items you’ll need to about to get rid of squirrels.

First, if you’ve never seen a flying squirrel be prepared be blown away at how handsome of a creature it is, but just because they’re cute doesn’t mean they aren’t a huge issue.

The problem with the flying squirrel is their small size.  A full grown adult can be as small as 6″and fit through a hole about the size of a nickel.  Compared to an adult grey squirrel which is about 10″ long and can fit through a quarter sized hole. Both pests are equally agile and as the name suggests flying squirrels can soar from the top of trees right onto the roof of a home.  Flying squirrels don’t actually fly though it’s more of a well orchestrated crash.  Flyers have extra skin that the front and back legs.  This skin acts as a parachute.

Dormers
Dormers and roof height are two things to keep in mind when evicting squirrels

Squirrels eviction is done in three main ways

  1. Live trap (must be checked every 24 hours)
